What to Expect During Your Session

When it comes to photographing your furry family members, a portrait session is a little different from a traditional family photoshoot.

Depending on our chosen location, there may be a few things to keep in mind. If we're planning on visiting a lake, river, or muddy trail, it's usually best to keep those adventures until the end of the session. We want to keep everyone looking their best for the first part of our time together — there will be plenty of opportunities for swimming, splashing, and getting muddy later.

If possible, I recommend a simple collar rather than a large, brightly coloured harness. This helps keep the focus on your dog and creates cleaner, more timeless photographs.

Please allow between 1 and 1½ hours for your session. This gives us time to get acquainted, explore the location, burn off a little energy, and allow your dog to relax in front of the camera.

Bringing along some favourite treats, a special toy, or a ball is always a great idea. These can be invaluable for keeping attention, rewarding good behaviour, and bringing out your dog's personality.

Most dogs are happy to be photographed for around 45 minutes before they start losing interest in sitting still. Some are natural models and can go longer, while others prefer shorter bursts of activity. Every dog is different, and the session will always be tailored to suit their personality and comfort level.

The goal is never to force a pose, but to create an enjoyable experience that results in authentic photographs you'll treasure for years to come.

  • Bring water for your dog

  • Bring their favourite treats or toy

  • A simple collar photographs best

  • Don't worry if they're excitable — that's completely normal

Outdoor Sessions

As I begin my pet photography work, I am offering outdoor sessions that typically run for around an hour. Each session includes digital delivery of high-resolution images as well as versions optimized for online sharing.
